Green Fins lands on US soil – DEMA 2018

For the first time ever, Green Fins was showcased in the US as part of the DEMA dive show in Las Vegas. Chloe Harvey from Reef-World ran a series of BlueGreen seminars in partnership with Laurie Wilson from the Blue Ocean Network.

These seminars entitled “How To Unlock the Potential of the Ocean Conscious Business Model” were designed to provide guidance and support to dive operators and professionals on their journey towards environmental sustainability. We explored new market segments emerging right now, who are looking for environmentally sustainable travel services. Together with the audiences, we discussed the steps towards sustainability and the actions that could be tackled at each stage of this journey. Case studies were drawn from within the Green Fins network to provide real-life examples of how people are overcoming challenges and what opportunities are presenting themselves along the way.

The DEMA seminars were sponsored by Reef-World partners and leaders in the discussion of sustainability in the diving industry: Fourth Element, Stream2Sea, Lembeh Resort, and Critters@Lembeh.

Chloe really enjoyed experiencing this industry-focused event and touching base with the many Green Fins friends as well as Reef-World symbiotic partners who were in attendance.

Chloe intends to continue to work with Blue Ocean Network to continue this discussion and deliver more solutions and tools for sustainable practices within the diving industry to the show next year (and beyond).

Produced by DEMA, the annual DEMA Show is the largest trade-only event in the world for companies doing business in the scuba diving, ocean water sports and adventure/dive travel industries. It attracts hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of dive and travel industry professionals from around the world each year. Reef-World is proud to attend the show and help attendees and exhibitors learn how to improve their sustainability through the Green Fins initiative.
