How to get involved ?
Volunteers
Volunteers for Green Fins are warmly welcomed and we thank everyone who has given their time to help with this rapidly expanding project.
Joining in means that you become part of a project that is measurably improving environmental practices wherever it goes. Through the Green Fins project, we have trained 5 different government departments, educated hundreds of scuba dive centres, worked with dozens of organisations such as NGO’s, local government units, stakeholders from local communities and hundreds of tourists from around the world.
As the project grows every year, there is a growing need for more people to help out and support the project.
If you live in a participating Green Fins country (currently Thailand, Malaysia, Indo
nesi
a & The Philippines), you can participate nationally as a Volunteer Green Fins Coordinator. Please contact your Network Leader – their details are on the country page of this website.
Alternatively, ask at any Green Fins dive operator – you will be able to recognise them from their in-shop certificate of participation, or contact
info@greenfins.net for a list of Green Fins members in your area. They will be able to let you know about any marine conservation activities planned and let you know how you can get involved.
Careers in Marine Conservation
If you are interested in a career in marine conservation, there are a number of excellent new professional marine conservation training programmes available. Trained volunteers will have more scope to assist on a national level with Green Fins.
Approved training organisations, such as
Zoox, allow extra trained personnel to support the project while helping those wanting to gain experience in a project that makes a real difference. The
Zoox Experience Programme has been designed around helping to support anyone wanting to further their knowledge, skills and develop their career while learning a variety of different topics through training modules included in the training.
The only restriction is that as diving is critical to any
Volunteer Green Fins Coordinator and so you must have at least 50+ dives to join the programme. You can arrange your diver training independently with any dive centre, or ask Zoox who works with a diver training centre in the UK and can provide training for anyone who would like to further their skills as a diver. Of course, we recommend you do that with a Green Fins dive operator wherever possible!
If you would like to know more and have any questions about Zoox marine conservation training, then please go to their
website.
If you have any further questions about volunteering for the Green Fins project, please email us at
info@greenfins.net, thanks.
Good luck,
