OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our philosophy is to provide well-researched and targeted assistance where those we help can then take their knowledge into their community and pass it on. We spend a lot of time searching for the right local people and then providing them with the information and knowledge that they need to develop their communities using their reefs and related natural resources wisely. This is whether they are from fishing villages developing their livelihoods & homes, or dive & snorkel operators, developing their businesses & community.

HISTORY

The Reef-World Foundation is a UK-based charity that has worked with local people to conserve coral reefs in Thailand for over 10 years and is now working within other Asia Pacific countries and internationally as part of the global coral reef community.

Our field of experience has been in working with both the diving community and local fishing communities to provide information about life on coral reefs and helping members of those communities find their own role in wider plans to protect reefs and related ecosystems.

The Reef-world team are based in both Anglesey in the UK and Phuket, Thailand. This enables them to be within easy reach and communication of all associated government departments and Green Fins members.

UNEP direction

Through guidance and funding the Reef-World Foundation has taken on the current role as Regional Coordinators of the Green Fins project. This has directly involved the R-W Foundation working closely with the Government Departments and GF members of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand in aiding and assisting them helping to develop the project to the best of their abilities. Through working on a regional scale, the R-W is in a position to share knowledge of best practice and to help replicate successes while at the same time supporting each country to have it's own unique direction and identity.

We are currently involved in aiding the development of the project in SE Asia with an aim to help develop a Roadmap that will enable the future success of Green Fins in other COBSEA countries. To find out more on this and the team's current progress please go to the Reef-world  'Latest News' page on the website or alternatively follow updates directly from the Facebook group or tweets from the Green Fins Twitter site.
